JAPAN: Showa, 1926-1989, AE 5 sen token, ND (1931-48), KM-L3, Nagashima Aisei-en Leprosarium Coinage, uniface with the badge of Nagashima Aisei-en Sanatorium above denomination, PCGS graded EF45. The Nagashima Aiseien Sanatorium is on the island of Nagashima in Setouchi, Okayama, Japan, founded in 1930 for the treatment of leprosy. The sanatorium is now home to former patients, many of whom have recovered but still live on the island. Japanese leper colony coins are rarely found outside Japan.
