JAPAN: Showa, 1926-1989, LOT of 5 AE medals, 2600th National Anniversary Commemorative Medal, Imperial chrysanthemum above the image of the sacred double bridges leading along the right bank of the river receding in the background to the entrance of the Imperial Palace in Tokyo // column of stylized Kanji characters, which translate "2600th Anniversary Commemorative Medal". Issued in the "Showa Era 15th Year (1940)", with original ribbon of issue, retail value $150, lot of 5 medals. The 2600th anniversary of the foundation of the Japanese Empire by Jimmu Tenno in 600 B.C. was celebrated in November 1940. The medal was instituted by Imperial Edict No. 488 of July 27, 1940, to be awarded to those summoned to the 1940 National Anniversary Day Festival, to those invited to the 2600th anniversary ceremonies, and to those connected with official duties and important affairs of the anniversary.
