JAPAN: gilt AR medal, Meritorious Member's Badge of the Imperial Soldiers' Relief Association (Teikoku Gunjin Koenkai), with original pin back, ribbon and deluxe lacquered case of issue with gold lettering, Unc, ex Joseph E. Lang Collection. The Meritorious Member's Badge of the Imperial Soldiers' Relief Association was an organization active in the Empire of Japan. The association was founded in 1896 to support the military and improve national military effectiveness. The badge features a design with an eagle at the top, crossed rifles, a fouled anchor, and a star at the bottom center. On the reverse, the top inscription reads Shonen-gun, meaning "Boys' Military/Army" or "Youth Military." This refers to the naval cadets or midshipmen. The bottom section (curved around the anchor fluke) reads Renshu Kantai Yuto Shosho, which means "Training Squadron/Fleet Excellence Award Badge." Badges of this type were manufactured by the Tenshodo workshop.
