JORDAN: AV medal (87.77g), 1967, 60mm, solid 18K gold; hand-engraved Arabic legend bi-munasabat ziarat ahil al-urdunn jalalat al-malik al-husayn ("On the occasion of the visit of the King of Jordan, His Majesty King Hussein"), and in the center imarat qatar ("Emirate of Qatar) and dated the 6th of February 1967 // crossed flags of Qatar and the country name below in Arabic, testmark on obverse rim at 1h, Unc, RRRR.

A unique medal, produced by William Kazan of Beirut and Geneva, to commemorate King Hussein's visit to Qatar in 1967, then under Ahmad bin Ali Al Thani, shortly before Great Britain would announce that Qatar would achieve independence after three more years (formal independence occurred on 3 September 1971). Kazan maintained a close relationship with the royal government of Qatar, and was once described as the "roving ambassador for Qatar." He was also an avid collector of Islamic gold coins, and his collection was published in an ostentatious catalogue, published in Beirut in 1983 (printed in Switzerland). This medal comes with the original box labeled "William Kazan S.A. / Joaillier / Beyreuth - Genève" with the Qatar flag on the top.
