KIRIN: Kuang Hsu, 1875-1908, AE 10 cash, ND (1903), Y-177.3, small star in margin on both sides, variety with the "1 " and "0 " of "10 " spread far apart, PCGS graded AU50, R, ex Don Erickson Collection. Emperor Kuang Hsu (i.e. Guangxu, which means "Glorious Succession ") was the 11th emperor of the Qing dynasty. His reign period lasted from 1875 to 1908, but effectively he lost his power in 1898. The real power was with the Empress Dowager Cixi, and he was under her influence during his reign. His attempt to launch the "Hundred Days' Reform " was tharted by a coup, presumably led by the Empress, and after that time he was placed on house arrest until his death ten years later.
