KOREA:LOT of 5 cast Horse Warrants Map'ae, large size single horse type dated in the 8th year, 6th month, of the Chinese Qing emperor Yong Zheng (1730); same but two horse warrant (2 pieces); same but four horse warrant; and another but five horse warrant with extra hole, these are in our opinion produced in the early 20th century, average VF condition, lot of 5 items.

Items like these were used by the Korean secret service in their trips around the country attempting to uncover corrupt officials. They would be presented at government stables to requisition the number of animals required. They were dated according to the Chinese imperial year, Korea being in a vassal relationship with China at that time. The month and day were filled in with ink, receipts duly collected, paperwork appropriately filed. Nearly ever specimen encountered on the market are later imitations such as these, made in the early 20th century.
