KUNTALA: Punchmarked, 5th century BC, AR double karshapana (6.59g), Pieper-120 (this piece), "pully" design, with symbol above, reckoned either as triskeles or simplified swastika; reverse technically blank but uneven surface resemble the head of a human ghost! XF, R, ex Wilfried Pieper Collection. Current research has assigned Kuntala to the Deccan Wai region. The denomination was originally called half shatamana, but now that many more have been published with weight, double karshapana seems correct.
