KURDISTAN: AV 1000 dinars, 2003/AH1424, KM-X4, fantasy issue commemorating al-Nasir I Salah al-Din Yusuf (Saladin), struck at the Patrick Mint, USA, PCGS graded Proof 69 DCAM, RR. The gold proof 1000 dinars features Saladin riding a horse carrying a Kurdish flag. It is struck in 22 Karat gold and contains just slightly under a half ounce (.4990 AGW) of pure gold. Only 98 pieces were struck of this attractive gold coin. This is the finest graded example at PCGS.The Patrick Mint was founded in 1957 but began minting operations in 1972 and was known for striking mainly silver rounds, advertising tokens and fantasy coinages until the mint was destroyed in the 2017 Tubbs Fire in the "Northern California Firestorm" along with 5,642 other structures in Santa Rosa, California.
