KUSHANO-SASANIAN: Anonymous, AV dinar, ca. mid-3rd century, G-696, imitating issue of Vasudeva I, king standing left, nimbate, sacrificing over altar to left and holding trident, with filleted trident to left, pellet and swastika between legs, three pellets below arm, nandipada to right // Siva standing facing, nimbate, holding wreath and trident, Nandi standing left behind, tamgha to upper left, OhÞO to right, struck on a lightly scyphate flan, XF. The Kushano-Sasanians established their rule in the northwestern Indian subcontinent (present-day Pakistan and Afghanistan), displacing the declining Kushans during the 3rd and 4th centuries. Their imitations of Vasu Deva's dinar became increasingly broad and barbarous, to the point that the Shiva and bull are no longer recognizable in the 4th century.
