KWANGTUNG: Kuang Hsu, 1875-1908, AR dollar, Canton, ND (1890-1908), Y-203, L&M-133, struck from Heaton Mint dies, with many Chinese merchant chopmarks, in an NGC Chopmarked holder with no grade. Designed in England, the new Canton Mint constructed in Chinese style was opened by Viceroy Zhang Zhidong on May 25, 1889. Measuring 200 meters long and 130 meters wide; the Canton Mint was the largest mint in the world operating 90 minting presses at once. The minted closed in 1931 and later was briefly re-opened by the Kuomintang in 1949 before their retreat to Taiwan.
