LAOS: Vientiane, AR tamlung (58.43g), ca. 1795-1828, Mitch--, Daniel-L2I, 89mm, lat ingot coinage (also known as tiger tongue), stamped with the Lanna letter ha on obverse, hole and additional stamp on reverse (possibly the unalom mark of Rama I (1782-1809) of Siam, VF, RR, ex Howard A. Daniel III Collection. The reason for the additional stamp is uncertain, but Daniel reports (p.22) that this type of ingot was paid by Vientiane to its Siamese overlord as a tax payment. Most of them were subsequently melted down and made into pot duang (bullet money).
