LÜBECK (CITY): Freie und Reichsstädte, AR thaler (28.52g), 1546, KM-MB73, Dav-9403, B-93, Sch-1822, St. John holding lamb / double-headed eagle, tiny "clip," pleasing appearance, VF.

In 1255, a coinage agreement between Hamburg and Lübeck was signed, basically outlining weight and fineness standards, and stating that no new coinage could begin by one without the other's consent. Lübeck was on the losing side of the Count's Feud, a civil war that took place in Denmark from 1534-1536. After this defeat, the importance of Lübeck and the Hanseatic League began a slow decline.
