LUXEMBOURG: Willem III, 1849-1890, AE 10 centimes, 1854, KM-23.1, struck at the Brussels Mint, a lovely lustrous example! PCGS graded MS63 BN, ex Joe Sedillot Collection. Although struck at the Brussels mint, this year shows strangely the caduceus of the Utrecht mint and the Roman sword of its director, Mr. van der Wall Blake. This error, previously made by Norbert Metz, was followed by a letter of protest from the Dutch Minister at the time of the Luxembourg Minister of Finance. Notwithstanding the admitted error, we find the same marks unduly on the mintages of 1870.
