MALAY STATES: PERAK: timma (12.05g), ND (ca. 18th century), Op-pg. 14, Fonrobert-2255, Thomsen-3481, cf. Singh-SS 56, 48x33mm tin animal currency in the form of a cockerel (ayam), rooster standing on 2 rings, with old collector tag, VF to EF. Singh states that this type of currency was influenced by folklore and magic, and were offered in sacrifice to the spirits. These pieces gained wide popularity, which eventually led to their use as a form of currency in Perak Selangor, and Negeri Sembilan, as well as from border regions of other Malay States.
