IMPORTANT NOTE - The Buyer's Premium is now $20 per lot or 20% of the hammer price, whichever amount is greater. However, we have also reduced opening bids on lower value items to adjust for the new Buyer's Premium structure, so all-in costs are still very close to what they were in the past. This change in fee structure will allow us to continue to offer coins valued at less than $100 in addition to our higher value offerings. Contact us with any questions.
KEDAH: Ala'uddin, ca. 17th century, silvered tin tarra (8.59g), SS-5Avar, al-sultan `ala' al-din mukaram shah // khallada Allah mulkahu fi al-din al-haqq wa-'izzahu ("May Allah perpetuate his reign in the religion of the truth and his glory"), light smoothing, some peripheral adhesions, F-VF, RRR. This example is the same type as the plate example of SS-5, though Singh gives a different ruler's name (Zia'uddin) and a completely different reading of the reverse side. Similar to the otherwise unknown Awaluddin (cf. our Auction 41, Lot 1445), there is no Ala'uddin among the list of rulers of Kedah. This coin is one of the only two examples we are aware of beside Singh's plate example.
