MANCHUKUO: AR order, Order of the Auspicious Clouds, 8th Class medal in silver with original ribbon, lapel pin, reverse with four traditional Chinese seal characters reading xun gong jing zhang ("medal for merit"), accompanied with lacquered case of issue with gold lettering, AU. The Order of the Auspicious Clouds (also known as the Ching Yun Chang or Order of the Iridescent Clouds) was established on March 1, 1934, by Emperor Kang Te (Pu Yi) of the Empire of Manchukuo, a puppet state controlled by the Empire of Japan before and during World War II. This order was designed and manufactured by the Japanese Mint to serve as Manchukuo's equivalent to the prestigious Japanese Order of the Rising Sun. It was awarded to both military personnel and civilians, predominantly Japanese officers and colonial administrators, for meritorious service and contributing to the development of the state. The medal is made entirely of silver and the obverse features a cross-like design with stylized rays radiating outward in four distinct directions, separated by four decorative stylized cloud structures. A smooth, raised circular medallion sits directly in the center. The reverse flat silver surface is stamped with four traditional Chinese seal characters reading Xun Gong Zhang (Order of Merit).
