MANCHUKUO: Kang De, 1934-1945, silvered medal, year 1 (1938), Manchukuo Red Cross Membership Medal, with original ribbon of issue, XF, ex Joseph E. Lang Collection. The Manchukuo Red Cross decorations and medals were established on October 1, 1938, and as in Japan, they were official awards that could be worn on military uniforms. They were designed after the Japanese Red Cross awards and were probably awarded in much the same way. The obverse features a central Geneva Red Cross surrounded by four, five-lobed orchid flowers. The reverse has two lines of Japanese-style kanji characters translating as "Manchukuo Red Cross" and Kangde year 5 [1938] October 1st". The Manchukuo Red Cross Membership Medal is much scarce than its cotemporary Japanese counterpart.
