MEXICO: AV escudo, 1845/4-GC, KM-379.3, assayer MP, NGC graded MS62. The Guadalupe y Calvo Mint was located in the Mexican State of Chihuahua, in a remote area rich in silver. The Mint operated under a ten-year lease that expired in 1852; apparently, the lease was not renewed. Rare, but a few have been available to collectors according to Richard A. Long in "Gold Coins of the Early Mexican Republic, 1823-1873".
