MEXICO: Republic, AR 8 reales (26.99g), Guadalupe y Calvo, 1846-GC, KM-377.7, D&P-GC03, assayer MP, second die style of 1845-1846, tiny obverse rim nick, lightly cleaned, but with nice album toning, scarce date/assayer, VF-XF, ex Bob "Swamperbob" Gurney Collection. In 1844, a government mint was erected at Guadalupe y Calvo to strike coinage from the locally discovered Rosario silver vein. The mint was closed in 1850. This type is usually poorly struck on defective planchets, but this example is well struck for the mint.
