MEXICO: Second Republic, AR 8 reales, 1848-GC, KM-377.7, DP-Gc05, assayer MP, struck at Guadalupe y Calvo, assayer MP, PCGS graded AU53. In 1844, a government mint was erected at Guadalupe y Calvo to strike coinage from the locally discovered Rosario vein. The mint was closed in 1850. In the book, Resplandores, it is noted that this date is "usually poorly struck on defective planchets", but this example is well struck. This is much nicer than usual for this mint and date.
