MING: Hong Wu, 1368-1398, AE 2 cash (8.32g), H-20.75, er qian (two cash) at right, F-VF. The "Hongwu Tongbao," translated as 'vastly martial circulating treasure', were the first cash coins to bear a regnal name during the Ming dynasty. On 23 January 1368, Zhu Yuanzhang, Prince of Wu, proclaimed himself emperor of the Ming dynasty in Nanjing and adopted "Hongwu" as his era name.
