MING: Hong Wu, 1368-1398, AE 5 cash (17.69g), H-20.99, with wu qian (five cash) at right on reverse, F-VF Hongwu Tongbao, translated as "vastly martial circulating treasure", was the first cash coin to bear a regnal name during the Ming dynasty. On 23 January 1368, Zhu Yuanzhang, Prince of Wu, proclaimed himself emperor of the Ming dynasty in Nanjing and adopted "Hongwu" as his era name.
