IMPORTANT NOTE - The Buyer's Premium is now $20 per lot or 20% of the hammer price, whichever amount is greater. However, we have also reduced opening bids on lower value items to adjust for the new Buyer's Premium structure, so all-in costs are still very close to what they were in the past. This change in fee structure will allow us to continue to offer coins valued at less than $100 in addition to our higher value offerings. Contact us with any questions.
MING: Hong Zhi, 1488-1505, AE cash (4.4g), H-20.127E, Yunnan local issue, graded 82 by GBCA Grading Company, VF, ex Dr. Dirk Löer Collection. Under the Ming dynasty the territory which used to belong to the Dali Kingdom cast their own coins; these cash coins were issued in the province of Yunnan under the reign of the Hongzhi Emperor and are known to be of poor workmanship and crude casting. It is often unknown if these cash coins were cast by the Bai people in Dali, the Hmong tribes living in the area, or one of the many other tribes that live in Yunnan, as records of their casting weren't being kept. Many of these cash coins were also cast using regular cash coins as "mother coins" which explains their rather crude appearances.
