MOZAMBIQUE: Portuguese Colony, AR rupee, ND (1889), KM-40.2, crowned PM countermark in circle on British India 1840 rupee (KM-458), EF on VF host. The decree of January 5, 1889 ordered that all foreign silver coins in circulation were to be countermarked with a crowned PM within a circle. They would be later replaced by Portuguese coinage when they came through the public treasury. PM stands for Port Mozambique.
