MUGHAL: Akbar I, 1556-1605, AV mohur (10.91g) (Anhirwala Pattan), AH984, KM-108 (mint unlisted), Liddle-G6 (same dies), royal legend in dotted cartouche // kalima in dotted square, date in lower left corner, mint below (off flan), lightly wavy planchet, two small testmarks on edge, EF, RRR. Anhirwala Pattan (also called Nahrwala Patan) was the medieval capital of Gujarat during the Chavda and Chaulukya dynasties and an important center of trade. It was also the first capital of the Gujarat Sultanate (1407-11), when Muzaffar Shah I declared independence from the Delhi Sultanate in the wake of Timur's invasion. It became a part of the Mughal Empire in 1573 and operated as a mint for a brief period. As a result, all issues from this mint are extremely rare, with only a handful of mohurs known (all dated AH984).
