MUGHAL: Akbar I, 1556-1605, AV square mohur, Urdu Zafar Qarin, AH987, KM-112.4, Liddle-G20, the mint is clearly Urdu Zafar Qarin, confirmed by the upper portions of all the letters, and not the relatively common AH987 mohur of the Fathpur mint (as noted on the slab), PCGS graded AU58, RRR. Liddle noted the exist of year AH987 for the gold square mohur of Urdu Zafar Qarin, though it is extremely rare, with none posted on Zeno, and none on CoinArchives. The normal date for this type is "alf" (1000), a type actually introduced in AH990 and presumably continuously struck throughout the following decade. See the discussion on Zeno-95421 for this analysis. This piece is an original mohur of Akbar, not one the many replicas that were produced as "good-luck" bullion pieces over the next several centuries.
