MUGHAL: Jahangir, 1605-1628, AV mohur (10.80g), Agra, AH1031 year 16, KM-180.19var, Capricorn obverse, later imitation, probably 18th century, superb quality, choice EF, ex Ajit Singh Collection. The obverse die is the same as the British Museum specimen (Lane-Poole-382), which was acquired by the museum from Marsden, thus likely struck before 1823. On the reverse (not illustrated in the BM catalog), there is a tiny dot after the two pellets that go with the "I" in the name jahangir. This is exactly what characterizes the mohurs and rupees struck at the British Calcutta mint from 1793 to 1835, and we would suggest that this piece was also produced at the Calcutta mint, either officially or quasi-officially, perhaps for presentation or gift purposes.
