MUGHAL: Jahangir, 1605-1628, AV mohur (10.88g), Kabul, year 18, KM-178.8, short couplet ta zanad az nam-i jahangir shah // sekke bovad nur dah mehr o mah. "so long as the coin is struck in the name of Jahangir Shah //may it give light to gold [mehr] and silver [mah]", VF, RRR. With the exception of a few issues of Burhanpur, all gold mohurs of Jahangir are both very rare and very popular. Kabul is an exceptionally rare mint for gold, and struck a number of distinctive types during the reign of Jahangir, this being one of the rarest types of all. Only two examples are recorded on CoinArchives, both with the "sakht nurani" couple and dated year 16 (listed in their auction catalogs as AH1016, corrected by Lingen for Zeno-79215), without regnal year, similar to the early heavy weight mohurs best known from the mints of Lahore & Agra dated a decade earlier, AH1014-1015. These two mohurs brought $15,000 in 2010 and $27,400 in 2013). This piece bears the "ta zanad" couplet well-known on the scarce silver rupees dated regnal years 17-21 (sometimes also with Hijri date), but seems to be unrecorded for gold.
