MUGHAL: LOT of 135 coins, a large and diverse group of large heavy copper dam coins, mostly of Akbar 1556-1605, an unsearched accumulation and a very interesting study lot, average circulated quality, retail value $2000, lot of 135 coins, ex Dr. Vincent John Adams Flynn Collection. Mughal Empire copper Dams were crucial for daily trade, introduced by Sher Shah Suri of the Delhi Sultanate and standardized by the Mughals, with 40 dams equaling one silver rupee. These substantial copper pieces featured Persian inscriptions, emperor names, mint details, and dates, reflecting cultural and administrative changes. They served as the backbone for small transactions, with variations in weight (around 20g) and inscriptions across different emperors from Akbar onwards.
