MUGHALPURA: Prathishtana type, ca. 1st century AD, lead unit (2.21g), Pieper-1666 (2021 edition, this piece), standing female figure, Brahmi legend patithana, round countermark depicting a standing human figure // railed tree flanked by hill and swastika, round countermark depicting a chakra, VF, RRR, ex Wilfried Pieper Collection. In view of the legend Patithana on this coin the ancient site of Mughalpura in Hisar district of Haryana must have been an important market center. The first specimen of this type was published by P.P.Kulkarni in 2006 who knew of just one other specimen. Since then no further coins of the type have surfaced. The Pieper coin thus appears to be the third known specimen of this exceedingly rare and important type.
