MUZAFFARID: Anonymous, ca. 1374-1376, AV dinar (2.11g), Isfahan, AH77x, A-2281V, ornate lobated square // plain circle; obverse legend just al-sultan / al-a'zam / khalad Allah mulkahu plus mint & date, with mint repeated on the reverse in the center, with the kalima around; unpublished and unique! EF, RRRR. Isfahan was ruled by the Muzaffarid Shah Mahmud as subordinate to his brother Shah Shuja'. He successfully captured Tabriz from the Jalayrid in AH776, but died either at Tabriz or en route back to Isfahan. Shah Shuja' appointed his nephew Yahya to govern Isfahan, but Yahya rose in rebellion, probably in mid or late AH777, but quickly restored piece with Shah Shuja'. This piece was struck either during the brief period between the death of Mahmud and the appointment of Yahya or during Yahya's short revolt. Gold coinage was virtually non-existent under the Muzaffarids - there are none on CoinArchives or Zeno.
