NAJJAHID: al-Fatik III, 1137-1158, AV dinar (2.02g), NM, AH531, A-E1075, Zeno-265258 (this piece), also Zeno-274400, ruler's name as amara bihi al-malik al-ajjal al-fâtik, followed by the phrase kahf al-muwahhidin, "the cavern of the Unitarians", above & below the field, date formula around // Sunni kalima in the center, with the additional phrase mukhif al-mulhidin, "afraid of the unbelievers", also divided above & below the field, without mint name and without any reference to the Abbasid caliph, clear date, excellent strike, and remarkable legends on both sides! VF, RRR, ex SARC Auction 39 Lot 364. The only other coin confirmed for al-Fatik III is a specimen in the Tübingen Collection (#91-14-7), mint of Zabid, with the caliph al-Muqtafi and possibly dated AH533.The Najjahids were a minor Sunni dynasty of Ethiopian slave origins, successors to the Ziyadids at Zabid (Yemen).
