IMPORTANT NOTE - The Buyer's Premium is now $20 per lot or 20% of the hammer price, whichever amount is greater. However, we have also reduced opening bids on lower value items to adjust for the new Buyer's Premium structure, so all-in costs are still very close to what they were in the past. This change in fee structure will allow us to continue to offer coins valued at less than $100 in addition to our higher value offerings. Contact us with any questions.
NASRID OF GRANADA: Muhammad XII, 1482-1491, square AR unit (3.78g), NM, ND, A-415A, same legends as the center of his gold dinar (A-215, Gomez-258): 4-line religious text // royal legend ('abd Allah) al-ghalib / (billah) muhammad bin 'ali / bin sa'd bin 'ali bin / nasr ayyadahu Allah wa nassirahu, with trace of the outer margins from the full dinar; partly double-struck; possibly struck privately as a token of remembrance following the collapse of the Nasrid dynasty and the expulsion of most Muslims in 1492; unpublished & unique, bold VF. According to a Nasrid specialist, "The weight is too high for a double dirham. The calligraphy is good in some parts and poor in others. It is probably not an official coin." It is very different from the official square gold double "dinar" of Muhammad XII (Hohertz-737, described as a funeral memento).
