IMPORTANT NOTE - The Buyer's Premium is now $20 per lot or 20% of the hammer price, whichever amount is greater. However, we have also reduced opening bids on lower value items to adjust for the new Buyer's Premium structure, so all-in costs are still very close to what they were in the past. This change in fee structure will allow us to continue to offer coins valued at less than $100 in addition to our higher value offerings. Contact us with any questions.
NETHERLANDS EAST INDIES: AE 1/2 duit (1.10g), Moquette-195, cf. Zeno-314064, 1752 VOC 1/2 duit of Holland, with chiseled square central hole for stringing, smoothing scratches, spot of delamination on obverse, VF. On December 20, 1754, the Dutch East India Company passed a resolution to send half duits worth 20,000 florins to Surabaya and Gresik. These coins were to be modified by punching out a square hole so that they could be strung together and circulated in competition with the local pitis coins of East Java and Bali. Very few examples with the hole are known today.
