IMPORTANT NOTE - The Buyer's Premium is now $20 per lot or 20% of the hammer price, whichever amount is greater. However, we have also reduced opening bids on lower value items to adjust for the new Buyer's Premium structure, so all-in costs are still very close to what they were in the past. This change in fee structure will allow us to continue to offer coins valued at less than $100 in addition to our higher value offerings. Contact us with any questions.
NETHERLANDS EAST INDIES: AE keping, "AH1411" (ca. 1831), KM-Tn3, Prid-22, Singapore Merchants token, rooster right, dots in legend tanah melayu // fictitious hijri date, glossy brown patina, Choice XF. Singapore merchant tokens circulated in the Netherlands East Indies, as that was the intention of the issuers. These were forbidden to circulate by the Dutch authorities (though they didn't offer an alternative, so the ban had no effect) and have evasive inscriptions, notably dates and region names. All circulated indiscriminately among the islands as well as in Singapore, regardless of the area name on them and regardless of whether the area is today in Indonesia or Malaysia.
