NETHERLANDS EAST INDIES: AR medal, hand engraved in Dutch, DEZE MUNT IS AFKOMSTIG UIT DE SCHATKAMER VAN DE RADJA VAN LOMBOK around Bolivia silver 8 reales date 1808-PTS assayer PJ, VF, RRR, ex Coin Galleries Sale, November 10, 1989. This coin was ransacked from the Lombuk (an island east of Bali) Treasury by the Dutch Army in 1894 and sent to the Netherlands. It was later countermarked by a committee to distribute to distinguished Dutch people. At most, about one hundred coins were countermarked and it cannot be found published yet in any catalog. It was taken, together with 230 kg (507 lb) of gold, 7,000 kg (15,432 lb) of silver and three chests of jewels and precious stones from the royal palace of Lombok after a Dutch invasion in 1894. Only part of the treasure was handed back to Indonesia in 1977.
