Adolf Erik Nordenskiöld led the Vega Expedition of 1878-80, named for the ship SS Vega. This was the first successful voyage of the Northeast Passage sea route between Europe and Asia via the Arctic Ocean. It also was the first voyage to circumnavigate Eurasia. The expedition is considered among the finest achievements in the history of Swedish science., PCGS graded Specimen 63.
