NUREMBERG: Free Imperial City, AR 3 ducat klippe (10.49g), 1648, Kellner-43; Erlanger-521, Georg Nürnberger, mintmaster, date in chronogram, civic coat-of-arms, legend in five lines above, branch to left and right // Agnus Dei (Lamb of God) standing left on Gospels, holding inscribed banner, floral decoration in four corners, loop attached, EF. This klippe commemorates the Peace of Westphalia, which ended the Thirty Years’ War in 1648. The coin’s date takes the form of a chronogram, and can be found by rearranging the capitalized letters on the obverse to form a date in Roman numerals (MDCXXVVVVVIII).
