NUREMBERG (IMPERIAL CITY): brass apothecary weights (1428g), ca. 1790's, Lockner-1643, rooster maker's mark (for Christoph Jobst Rothenberger), comprising a latched and lidded exterior cup (itself weighing 4 French marcs) and 8 successively smaller nesting cups (1, 1/2 marc, 2, 1, 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, and 1/16 ounce) for a total weight of 6 marcs, XF, ex Dr. Robert A. Rosenfeld Collection. A Parisian marc was equivalent to about 244.75g during the Ancien Regime, though there were considerable variations across France. The weight standard of this set is 238g per marc.
