OAXACA: AE 3 centavos, 1915, KM-711, GB-290, Oax-3, rectangular revolutionary issue, highest graded by NGC (April 2016), NGC graded MS64 RB, R-3. Many Oaxacan workers were harshly exploited by the large landowners. When the Mexican Revolution began in 1910, Oaxaca gave its support to Emiliano Zapata, who declared that the land belonged to the workers. After Diaz lost power, there was much disagreement among Revolutionary leaders as to their direction. Carranza was against some of Zapata's pronouncements and seized control of the Federal Government, eventually defeating the armed forces of Pancho Villa and Zapata. Oaxacans disliked Carranza so much that his brother was assassinated in Oaxaca. There was further struggle for control of the government, but Federal troops eventually won out.
