OCEANIA: PAPUA NEW GUINEA: LOT of 6 nassa shell belts, Opitz (2011) p.379-80, including two belts (43cm & 52cm long, the latter with several triangular pendants), a chest ornament (32cm), two arm bands, and a crescent-shaped forehead decoration (from Budua, Manam Island); made with numerous nassa shells sewn onto to tree bark frames or woven bands, used as bride price and store of wealth; retail value $250, lot of 6 pieces, ex Charles Opitz Collection.
