OCEANIA: PAPUA NEW GUINEA: LOT of 6 nassa shell belts, Opitz (2011) p.379-80 (some plate examples), including one belt (50cm long), a diamond-shaped head ornament (31cm, from the village of Yessan), a semi-circular chest ornament (25cm), two arm bands, and a necklace with a star (or animal) shaped pendant; made with numerous nassa shells sewn onto to tree bark frames or woven bands, used as bride price and store of wealth, a very interesting set! retail value $350, lot of 6 pieces, ex Charles Opitz Collection.
