OTTOMAN EMPIRE: Jem Sultan, 1481, AR akçe (0.70g), Bursa, AH(8)86, A-1310, Damali-7CM-BU-G1b, some light adhesions (removable), struck during his short reign of 22 days, VF. Jem Sultan was governor at Konya for his father Mehmet II. After Mehmet's death he hastened to Bursa where he declared himself sultan on May 28, 1481. But just 22 days later (June 19, 1481), he was defeated in battle by Bayezit II and fled to Cairo. It seems remarkable that his team was able to cut several dies and strike coins in his name within that short period.
