OTTOMAN EMPIRE: Selim I, 1512-1520, AV sultani (3.42g), Hizan, AH924, A-1314, Damali—, fully clear mint name and date below the obverse, mint reported by Damali and on CoinArchives for silver akçes but there are no reported coins in gold at any source, probably the first known example and unique, choice VF to EF, RRRR, ex Ahmed Sultan Collection. Hizan is a small town about 20 miles south of the city of Tatvan at the western tip of Lake Van. In addition to a few extremely rare Ottoman copper coins, there are also some pre-Ottoman silver coins of the Aq Qoyunlu and the Safavids struck at Hizan prior to the Ottoman annexation, also extremely rare.
