A great book listing the many, many varieties of the very popular oval shaped Edo period Tenpo Tsuho coinage cast 1835-70. This type circulated for 35 years before production was discontinued during the Meiji Restoration after the introduction of the Japanese yen. Excellent rubbings throughout, ex. H. F. Bowker Numismatic Library. Howard Franklin Bowker (1889-1970) was a numismatist and philatelist, collecting and specializing in Chinese coins, stamps and banknotes. He created the first bibliography of Western language publications on East Asian numismatics.
