PALESTINE: Ottoman Period, brass 1/2 para token (0.55g), ND (ca. 1875-1910), Hafner-CC16, Z'dakah Charity, hand hammered uniface token struck with wooden dies, Hebrew legend in two lines Sade-Dalet Koph-Hey forming the word Z'dakah (charity), a very rarely encountered token, crude VF, RRR, ex W.J. Noble Collection, Sale 61B (lot 1755) and Baldwin Sale 6 (lot 893), ex Stephen Album Price List #260. Struck during the Ottoman period in the Mutasarriflik of Jerusalem. This brass charity token was used to help the poor and also used as change due to a severe shortage of small denomination coins during the late 19th century Ottoman period.
