IMPORTANT NOTE - The Buyer's Premium is now $20 per lot or 20% of the hammer price, whichever amount is greater. However, we have also reduced opening bids on lower value items to adjust for the new Buyer's Premium structure, so all-in costs are still very close to what they were in the past. This change in fee structure will allow us to continue to offer coins valued at less than $100 in addition to our higher value offerings. Contact us with any questions.
PHILIPPINES: AR medal (30.25g), "1010", YL-63, Honeycutt-1427, 41mm silver anting-anting medal, a radiant pregnant Virgin Mary with numerous children around with LA CONCEPCION around bottom // Jesus, Mary, and Joseph with JESUS - MARIA - JOSEPH around and "1010" above MARIA, deeply toned, reeded edge, VF. Anting-anting are religious talismans used as tangible representations of Filipino's beliefs. They are very crudely made and were supposedly produced in Laguna Province. One source gives their dates of manufacture as approximately 1950 to the mid-80's. The dates sometimes represented on the medals are fictitious. There are many different obverse and reverse types, and were paired to create many combinations. This particular type was made specifically for women having difficulty in getting pregnant.
