POLAND: AR medal, 1935, 34mm, 15th Anniversary of Recovering Access to the Sea, silver medal by Tadeusza Breyera, LIGA MORSKA I KOLONJALNA around symbolic figure of an angel with a sword in her hand and Polish shield in the other, sun and lighthouse below // W XV-LECIE ODZYSKANIA MORZA, silhouette of the liner Pilsudski, M / S PILSUDSKI below, Ag 0.750 and State Mintmark on edge, AU. M/S Pilsudski was a medium-size ocean liner of the Polish Merchant Marine, named for Marshal Józef Pilsudski, a national hero of Poland. She was built in Italy and was launched in December 1934. During her first wartime voyage on 26 November 1939 sailing out of Newcastle, she struck a mine or was more likely torpedoed and sunk.
