PORTUGAL: Maria II, 1834-1853, AR 870 reis, ND (1834), KM-440.4, crowned shield countermarked on Mexico 8 reales 1808-Mo (Fernando VII imaginary bust, assayer TH, KM-110) for continued circulation in metropolitan Portugal, holed, VF on F-VF host. In 1834, the Portuguese government ordered countermarking of all Spanish Colonial 8 Reales in circulation with the crowned arms of Portugal, to indicate a revaluation to 870 Reis.
