PORTUGUESE INDIA: 1 escudo, 1958, KM-33, defaced error coin, Unc. Following the Indian army's capture of Goa in December 1961 (Operation Vijay), the colonial administration and financial systems were quickly replaced, leading to the decommissioning of Portuguese Indian coins and notes. Coins were reportedly defaced by the Indian administration troops after the capture of Goa by rolling or flattening the coins before destruction.
